Cog Workshop: I heard it on the ape vine: human and chimpanzee gestural meanings (Week 2)(Pritty Patel-Grosz, University of Oslo & Catherine Hobaiter, University of St. Andrews)
This course presents recent research on gestural meanings in humans and chimpanzees. Specifically, we focus on the recent insight that there is a potentially universal gestural inventory shared throughout the family of great apes (humans, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orangutans). In this course we investigate whether interactive/pragmatic gestures in humans can be traced back to directive gestures shared with other great apes, such as chimpanzees.
